Cazenovia, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team closed their 2023 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season on Saturday traveling to Cazenovia College to drop a 12-6 decision to the host Wildcats. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers fall to 11-23 overall including a 6-6 conference record while the Wildcats improve to 19-15 including a 10-2 NAC record.
The Fighting Tigers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after three innings highlighted by run scoring singles by senior pitcher
Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, and junior third baseman Deanna Palmer, Auburn, N.Y., Auburn High School, in the frame.
However, over the next three innings the Wildcats scored the game's next 11 runs using a seven run sixth inning to secure the victory.
The Fighting Tigers did score a run in the seventh when sophomore catcher
Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, belted a home run.
Wendleken finished the day at 1-for-3 with two runs scored and the home run and an RBI while Deanna Palmer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Fighting Tigers are scheduled to close the regular season on Monday May 1 when they travel to North Adams, Ma. for a non-conference meeting with the Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) with first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m.
