Marcy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill opened the 2023 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament by dropping a hard-fought 3-1 decision to the Terriers of Thomas College on Sunday in a game played at host SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Wildcat Softball Field. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 11-24 overall on the season while the Terriers improve to 15-13 overall on the campaign.
After falling behind 3-0 after two innings the Fighting Tigers stiffened behind senior starting pitcher
Marissa Wheeler, Kinderhook, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, who worked all six innings of the contest allowing three earned runs on eight hits striking out six and walking none.
Cobleskill then cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth when junior first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, singled advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and subsequently scored on a double by junior third baseman
Deanna Palmer, Auburn, N.Y., Auburn High School.
However, that was as close as the Orange & Black would get as Terrier pitcher Kelsey Currier held them in check the rest of the way to record the victory allowing Cobleskill only five hits on the day.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Monday May 8 when they will meet the loser of today's game between Husson University and Cazenovia College at 9:00 a.m.
