Cobleskill, N.Y.: SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Director Marie Curran-Headley announced today that
Kate Isaksen has been named the new Fighting Tigers Head Women's Volleyball Coach. Isaksen comes to Cobleskill after serving as SUNY Brockport's Interim Head Coach in 2022 leading the Golden Eagles to a 20-8 overall record including an 8-1 mark in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play and the championship game of the league's conference tournament. She served as the program's assistant coach in 2021 helping the team to a 17-10 overall record with a 6-3 mark in SUNYAC play.
According to Curran-Headley the new Fighting Tiger Head Coach is a great addition to both the volleyball program and the athletic department staff.
"Coach Isaksen has an impressive coaching background. She has a deep understanding of the game and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. We believe that Coach Isaksen will elevate our programs' performance and foster a positive and inclusive team culture. She is committed to the holistic development of our student-athletes, emphasizing the importance of academics, sportsmanship, and community engagement."
A product of the capital region volleyball community, Isaksen was a standout for Section II volleyball powerhouse Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School under Hall-of-Fame Head Coach Gary Bynon helping the Spartans to a New York State Championship in 2015 while being selected to the All-New York State Team before playing collegiately at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. where she was a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American and a three-time AVCA All-New York First Team selection, a four-time Liberty League All-Star, a three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III and a two-time College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-American selection.
The new Fighting Tiger mentor is excited about joining Cobleskill and the upcoming campaign.
"I love the sense of community in the athletic department and among the teams. This year I want to continue to develop team culture and for us to return to the conference tournament."
As an undergraduate, Isaksen double majored in Computer Science and Mathematics earning her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in 2020 and will complete her MSED in Adolescent Mathematics Education (grades 5 thru 12) from SUNY Brockport in 2024.
Isaksen succeeds Hailee Herc who led Cobleskill to a 5-18 overall record including a 3-5 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action and a bid to the league's championship tournament.
