Megan Bowman praised Thayne's growth and impact on the court, crediting her hard work and leadership.
"Going into this season we knew Thayne had put in the offseason to start to attract national attention, this award comes as no surprise to her coaches and teammates. She led us to a hard-fought road victory and came up huge at home in a gritty overtime thriller. Thayne has become so difficult to guard because of the weapons around her and her ability to read double-teams and make the correct pass when she needs to." Bowman said. "She has grown into the leader we always knew she could be, especially during the adversarial times. She is finishing around the rim at an elite level, combining both strength and finesse. This award is a reflection of her hard work and team-first mentality, and we are excited to keep raising the ceiling for Thayne and SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball."
Thayne's week featured back-to-back dominant performances. Against Alfred State, she led with 22 points, 18 rebounds (7 offensive, 11 defensive), three blocks, and went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. She then posted a season-best 33 points, 14 rebounds (5 offensive, 9 defensive), and five blocks in an overtime thriller against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). For the week, she averaged 27.5 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks across two games.
For the season, Thayne is averaging 27.3 points, 15 rebounds (6.0 offensive, 9.0 defensive), and three blocks per game, shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from three-point range, and 90.5 percent from the foul line.
Catch Thayne and the Fighting Tigers in action on Tuesday, November 19, as they host VTSU-Castleton at 6:00 p.m. in the Iorio Gymnasium.
