Utica, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's indoor track and field team opened their season with a series of standout performances at the Utica Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Second-year distance runner
Lilianna Peters (Hinsdale, NY/Allegany-Limestone) led the way for the Fighting Tigers with third-place finishes in both the 5000 meters and 3000 meters. Peters clocked 19:06.56 in the 5000 meters and 11:04.84 in the 3000 meters. Teammate
Alyssa Freeguard (Argyle, NY) also impressed in these events, taking sixth in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:16.29 and 10th in the 5000 meters in 19:38.92.
First-year hurdler
Anneliese Klein (Carlisle, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) made an impressive collegiate debut, qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles final with a preliminary time of 9.83 seconds. She improved to place fourth in the final, finishing in 9.82 seconds. Klein also shined in the long jump, earning fourth place with a leap of 5.08 meters (16-8).
In the mile,
Gillian Miner (Saranac, NY) finished 12th with a time of 6:03.46, while teammate
Kathrine Ledermann (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) followed in 15th at 6:25.44. Miner also placed fourth in the 800 meters, clocking 2:42.64. Ledermann took seventh in the event with a time of 2:55.41, with
Madison Binette (Lewiston, ME) close behind in eighth.
The Fighting Tigers' 4x800-meter relay team of Freeguard, Peters, Binette, and Miner claimed second place with a time of 11:08.66.
In the throwing events, first-year
Adira-Virginia Greer-Padilla (Fallsburg, NY) led Cobleskill with a 17th-place finish in the weight throw, achieving a mark of 11.34 meters (37-2 ½). In the shot put,
Alyssa Abbott (Bliss, NY/Letchworth Central) placed 26th with a toss of 9.18 meters (30-1 ½), while Greer-Padilla recorded a mark of 8.89 meters (29-2) for 30th place.
