SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tiger Weekly Recap for the Week of February 11, 2024


 
The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team clinched the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division regular season title by posting a pair of conference wins during the week defeating the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville in Morrisville, N.Y. 70-48 then beating the visiting Lions of Eastern Nazarene College at home 93-47 on Saturday to improve to 23-1 overall including a perfect 12-0 record in conference play. Fighting Tiger senior center Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, led the Cobleskill attack posting a pair of double/doubles during the week averaging 17.0 points, 15.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 1.0 steals per game connecting on 12-of-25 shots from the field, 48.0%, and 10-of-12, 83.3%.
 
The Fighting Tiger men's basketball team won one-of-three NAC contests during the week losing on the road to the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville in Morrisville, N.Y. 84-79 prior to splitting a pair of league home games over the weekend losing to the Broncos of SUNY Delhi on Friday 96-88 then defeating Lions of Eastern Nazarene College 73-65 to close the regular season with a 15-10 overall record including an 8-4 mark in league play. Senior guard Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, posted an impressive week for the Orange & Black averaging 28.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game connecting on 24-of-53, 45.3%, including 8-for-21, 38.1%, from three-point range while connecting on 27-of-33, 87.9%, of his free throw attempts. In the team's win over Eastern Nazarene Starks recorded a double/double with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the win.  
 
First-year jumper Bethanie Becker, Miller Place, N.Y., Miller Place High School, was the Fighting Tiger women's track & field team's top finisher at the 2024 CNY Valentine Alternate Alternative Meet hosted by Utica College in Utica, N.Y. on Saturday. At the non-scoring qualifying meet, Becker won the Long Jump at the meet with a mark of 16'3".
 
First-year jumper Thomas Herberger, Avon, N.Y., Avon High School, turned in the Fighting Tigers men's indoor track & field team's best individual effort at the 2024 CNY Valentine Alternate Alternative Meet a non-scoring qualifying meet hosted by Utica College in Utica, N.Y. on Saturday. Herberger placed second overall in the Triple Jump at the event with a mark of 43'10 ½" at the event.
