SUNY Cobleskill Men's Lax Falls 12-4 to Elms Blazers in Non-League Action

Chicopee, Mass.: The SUNY Cobleskill took to the road once again on Saturday to drop a 12-4 decision the host Blazers of Elms College in non-league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 0-2 overall on the year to date while the Blazers open their season at 1-0.

The Fighting Tigers trailed from the opening face-off 2-0 in the early goings of the first period by rallied back on goals by first-year midfielder Alex Baker, Guilford, Vt., Brattleboro Union High School, and senior attackman Sean D'Amaro, Northport, N.Y., Northport High School, to trail 3-2 at the end of the session.

Cobleskill trailed 4-3 at the half as first-year midfielder Robert Staubitz, East Rockaway, N.Y., East Rockaway High School, tallied before the break to put the Fighting Tigers in striking distance of the home team.

However, the second half was all Blazers as Elms outscored the visitors 8-1 in the half allowing Cobleskill only a late goal by junior midfielder Albert Sippio, Syracuse, N.Y., ITC, with six seconds remaining as the home team dominated the action holding a 62-to-25 advantage in shots, a 72-to 23 advantage in ground balls and a 14-to-5 advantage in the face-off circle.

Alex Baker turned in a solid effort for the Orange & Black with a goal an assist and three ground balls while Albert Sippio had four ground balls and four caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Defensively, first-year goalkeeper James Meier, Guilderland, N.Y., Guilderland High School, did his best to turn back an aggressive Blazer offense recording 21 saves to go with a pair of ground balls on the afternoon.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Tuesday March 12 when they travel to Salem, Mass for a non-league meeting with the Vikings of Salem State University with face-off at 4:00 p.m.
