Aurora, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team took to the road on Friday afternoon to take a non-conference doubleheader from The Express of Wells College by scores of 12-1 and 14-2. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers improve to 4-6 overall on the season to date while The Express fall to 2-3 overall on the campaign.
In the first game the Fighting Tigers played long ball with the Wells pitching staff as senior first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, homered to left to give Cobleskill a 1-0 lead followed by a pair of home runs by first-year designated player
Gianna Guido, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, who hit a solo shot in the second inning followed by a three-run homer in the third inning to increase the lead to 5-0 from which they never looked back.
Junior pitcher
Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, notched the victory going the distance allowing one earned run on five hits striking out three and walking no one to improve to 2-1 overall on the year.
Offensively,
Gianna Guido went 2-for-3 with the two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored with
Alexis Miranda going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Senior
Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, was also a factor in the win going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
In the second game, Cobleskill employed the long ball to take an early lead when first baseman
Alexis Miranda blasted a two-run homer to left field to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after one inning.
The Fighting Tigers subsequently broke the game open in the open with a six-run fifth inning highlighted by a bases loaded clearing double off the bat of left fielder
Emily Lutz then closed the day's scoring with a five-run fifth inning as catcher
Gianna Guido hit her third home run of the day, a three-run shot to left field, to give Cobleskill the eight-run rule victory.
Given substantial offensive support first-year pitcher
Madelynn Orosz, Seymore, Ct., Nonnewaug High School, went the distance allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out four and walking only one to post the win.
Emily Lutz led the Cobleskill attack at the plate going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBI while senior third baseman
Deanna Palmer, Auburn, N.Y., Auburn High School/Finger Lakes Community College, went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The Orange & Black will conclude their weekend road trip on Saturday March 30 when they travel to Potsdam, N.Y for a non-league doubleheader with the host Bears of SUNY Potsdam in Potsdam, N.Y. with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
