SUNY Cobleskill Softball Downs SUNY Delhi 7-0 & 10-2 in NAC Doubleheader

Fighting Tiger Softball Posts Sunday Conference Sweep Over SUNY Delhi 7-0 & 10-2


 
Oneonta, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team closed out their weekend by sweeping a doubleheader from the host Broncos of SUNY Delhi in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play by scores of 7-0 and 10-2 in games played at All-Star Village on Sunday. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers improve to 9-8 overall including a 5-0 record in NAC action while the Broncos drop to 3-17 overall with a 0-6 record versus league opponents.
 
In the opener Fighting Tiger junior hurler Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, held the Bronco offense in check over the course of seven innings allowing only six hits and no runs to improve her overall record to 4-1 overall on the year.
 
Cobleskill held a 2-0 in the top of the third inning when senior left fielder Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, belted a three-run homer which gave the visitors a 5-0 lead from which they never looked back.
 
Lutz led the offensive going 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while junior right fielder Jenna Smyczynski, East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora High School, went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
In the second game the Cobleskill offense pounded out 12 hits including six for extra bases to secure the victory as junior catcher Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, led the way going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI with left fielder Emily Lutz going 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI.
 
The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from junior centerfielder Alexia Clemons, Beaver Falls, N.Y., Beaver River High School, who went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI and from junior shortstop Kailee DiGiacco, Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport High School/Monroe Community College, who went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
 
First-year pitcher Madelynn Orasz, Seymour, Ct., Nonnewaug High School, improved to 5-3 overall on the year allowing the Broncos only two earned runs on two hits over five innings of work.
 
The Orange & Black next tentatively scheduled to be in action on Tuesday April 16 when they travel to Elmira, N.Y. for a pair of non-league games versus the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
