Fighting Tiger Softball Splits NAC Doubleheader with SUNY Poly Wildcats

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team returned to Fighting Tiger Park on Saturday afternoon to split a doubleheader with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division leading Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) by losing the opener by an 18-0 tally then taking the nightcap 3-2 in league action. With the split the Fighting Tigers are currently 10-12 overall including a 6-2 record in conference play while the Wildcats move to 18-7 including an 12-1 record versus league opponents.

In the opener the visitors raked Fighting Tiger pitching for 24 hits and 18 runs to take the decision as Cobleskill could only manage a pair of doubles of the bat of senior first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, who was 2-for-2 in the game.

The second game was a complete contrast as Cobleskill starting pitcher Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, held the Wildcats scoreless through six innings. Then in the seventh after the visitors scored twice while putting the go-ahead runs on first and second with two outs, Chamberlain fanned Wildcat third baseman Kaitlyn Findlay on the full-count riser to secure the victory and run her record to 5-2 overall on the year.

Offensively the Fighting Tigers were led by junior shortstop Kailee DiGiacco, Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport High School/Monroe Community College, who went 1-for-3 with a fourth inning home run which turned out to be the game winner, junior catcher Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, first-year third baseman Gianna Guido, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, who was 1-for-3 with an RBI and by first-year second baseman Kylie Rattigan, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Arlington High School, who went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday April 24 when they host the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) for a non-conference doubleheader at Fighting Tiger Park with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
