Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball's Logan Thayne Named Bennett Award Winner & Comeback Player-of-the-Year

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that senior women's basketball team member Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, has been named the 2023-24 Fred Bennett Outstanding Athlete Award winner for her accomplishments during year as well as the athletic program's 2023-24 Comeback Player-of-the-Year.

The Fred Bennett Outstanding Athlete Award is given yearly to the women's team member who has had the most outstanding achievements during the year while Comeback Player-of-the-Year is awarded to the player who has overcome injuries or illness to have an outstanding season.

This year after missing the 2022-23 season due to injury, the 6'3" center/power forward was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player-of-the-Year and to the NAC First Team as well to the D3 Hoops.Com All-Regional Team for leading the Fighting Tigers to the NAC Western Division Championship with a 25-2 overall record including a 13-0 record versus league opponents.

During the season Thayne averaged 16.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.2 blocked shots and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 55.6% from the field including 32.3% from three-point range and 79.4% from the free throw line.

According to Fighting Tiger Head Coach Megan Bowman all that Thayne needed was the to be healthy in order to showcase her unique skill set.

"Although there had been bumps and bruises in her journey, she finally had the opportunity to play an entire year of basketball and the stats and efficiency speak for themselves. She has the unique ability to adapt to any defense and any pace; she is one of the rare 6'3 post players in our Division who can pull her defender deep outside the three-point-line or bring a smaller defender in the paint. Being named not only NAC Player-of-the-Year, but also our program's first All Region Player is a testament to her hard work and never give up attitude. Logan just needed a chance and a place to genuinely be Logan."

With one year of eligibility remaining Thayne will return to SUNY Cobleskill next year to finish an additional degree and return to the Fighting Tigers for one final year on the court
