Bangor, ME: The Fighting Tiger softball team fell short 12-8 in a close game to SUNY Morrisville in day one of the NAC Softball Championship Tournament hosted at Husson University.
Kailee DiGiacco (Spencerport, NY) led the Fighting Tigers going 2-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Senior
Alexis Miranda (Nashua, NH) finished the day going 1-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base. First year
Jenna Smyczynski (East Aurora, NY) went 2-4 and one run scored and
Emily Lutz (Ellenville, NY) finished 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Jaydaci Chamberlain (Northborough, Mass) picked up the loss for the Fighting Tigers as she falls to 10-4 overall.
Morrisville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after Abbie Platt singled to center field that drove home a run for the mustangs. Cobleskill answered in the third inning when
Alexis Miranda hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Kaylee DiGiacco and pulled the Fighting Tigers to within one run, 2-1. Morrisville then used a big fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-1.
In the fifth inning, the Fighting Tigers offensive came alive and exploded for seven runs thanks to two RBIs and a double by DiGiacco. Playing a big part was
Alexis Miranda who singled to left field that drove home DiGiacco to make it 5-3. Then the Tigers pounced on a mustangs throwing error to pull within one, 5-4.
Mackenzie Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY) and
Emily Lutz both earned RBI's in the inning as they hit home Miranda and
Kylie Rattigan (Poughkeepsie, NY) to take a 6-5 lead.
Deanna Palmer joined in on the action as she singled to right field for an RBI as Lutz scored to extend the Tigers lead. At her second at bat for the inning, DiGiacco hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field that scored Smyczynsk for their final run of the fifth inning. Cobleskill ended the inning with an 8-5 lead heading into the sixth inning.
Morrisville would answer as they scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-8 lead heading into the seventh inning. The Fighting Tigers couldn't end the mustangs momentum as Morrisville added three more runs to win the game 12-8.
