Troy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team took to the road on Tuesday evening to fall to the host Gators of Russell Sage College 3-0 by set scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-14 in non-league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 1-3 overall on the season while the Gators improve to 3-1 overall on the year to date.
In the opener with the score tied 8-8, the Gators went on a 12-0 run to effectively take a 20-8 advantage and never looked back setting a tone for the evening that saw the home team dominate play at the net with 15 kills in the set propelling Sage to 36 kills on the night good for a .295 hitting percentage on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers received solid individual efforts from sophomore opposite side hitter
Kathleen Smart, Nashville, Tenn., Pope John Paul II Prep., with six kills, six digs and a solo block and from sophomore
Emma Hinze, Altenburg, Mo., Saxon Lutheran High School, who had five kills and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter/middle hitter
Hallie Gasner, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School, was also a factor in the match for the visitors with five kills and four total blocks on the night.
Cobleskill will return to action over the over weekend when they host a quadrangular event at the Iorio Gymnasium. On Friday September 6 the Fighting Tigers will meet the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed on Saturday September 7 when Cobleskill will meet the Bears of SUNY Potsdam at 12:00 p.m. followed by a 4:00 p.m. meeting with Smith College.
