Women's Basketball Set to Host NAC West Division Tournament

The Tigers will look to repeat as back-to-back West Champions

Cobleskill, NY: SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball has secured the top seed in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division Women's Basketball Tournament and will host the division's tournament pod for the second consecutive season.

As the No. 1 seed, the Fighting Tigers will welcome VTSU-Lyndon, Lesley University and VTSU-Johnson to the Iorio Gymnasium for a pair of NAC quarterfinal contests on Friday, February 21, followed by the NAC West Division Championship on Saturday, February 22.

The Fighting Tigers finished the 2024-25 regular season with an 11-2 NAC record, 8-0 in the division, and a 21-4 overall mark. Last season, Cobleskill claimed the West Division title with dominant wins over SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Canton and will look to repeat that success on their home court and become back-to-back West Division Champions for the first time in program history.

Quarterfinal action begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. when Cobleskill faces No. 4 seed VTSU-Johnson (2-11 NAC, 3-21). The second quarterfinal, set for 7:30 p.m., will feature No. 2 VTSU-Lyndon (7-6 NAC, 10-13) against No. 3 Lesley University (4-9 NAC, 9-15). The winners will meet in the NAC West Division Championship on Saturday, with game time to be determined. The West Division champion will then host the East Division winner in the 2025 NAC Championship on Saturday, March 1, at 1:00 p.m., with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.

This season, the Fighting Tigers have been led by its senior core of Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY), Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/BKW), Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes), Antonia May (Amsterdam, NY), and Annie Canales (North Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley). Head coach Megan Bowman believes her team is prepared for the postseason, especially given its perfect 11-0 record at home this year.

"In our first leadership meeting of the season, our captains set a goal to go undefeated at home," Bowman said. "It was something we focused on all year and securing the No. 1 seed while accomplishing that goal was a big step. But it's just one step toward our bigger goals. The support from our campus and community has been incredible, and our team feeds off that energy. One home loss in 432 days has our team motivated to finish strong in front of our fans. We are focused on the next game and making the most of every home opportunity."

Bowman also reflected on the significance of Cobleskill's first undefeated home season in program history.

"Being the first team to go undefeated at home is a special honor, especially for a group that has grown with the love and support of this community," Bowman said. "To go 11-0, a lot of things have to go right, but I'm most proud of how we've responded when things haven't. When Meacham and Thayne announced in the locker room at Maine Maritime last season that they were returning for a fifth year, it was a special moment. That moment set the tone for our resilience. Instead of focusing on individual accomplishments, this team has stayed committed to one simple message: 'Win at home.' Now, with the potential for three more home games—each a win-or-go-home scenario—we are determined to finish 14-0."

The Fighting Tigers open NAC tournament play on Friday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m., hosting No. 4 seed VTSU-Johnson in the NAC West Division Quarterfinals at Iorio Gymnasium.
