Game One: Cobleskill 13, Delhi 5
The Fighting Tigers found themselves in an early hole, giving up five runs in the first inning, but clawed their way back and then some—scoring 13 unanswered to cruise to a dominant Game One victory.
Senior shortstop
Kailee DiGiacco (Spencerport, NY) sparked the Cobleskill comeback, driving in three runs while going 2-for-5 with a run scored. First-year centerfielder
Avery Prievo (Camden, NY) set the tone, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.
Mackenzie Wendelken (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) chipped in with two hits, an RBI, and crossed the plate twice, while
Aliyah Neeser (Forest Lake, Minn/Forest Lake Area) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
Kylie Rattigan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) added two hits and two runs, and
Hannah Dean (Ripley, ME/Dexter) had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs of her own.
In the circle,
Madelynn Orosz (Seymour, CT/Nonnewaug) took over in relief and shut the door. The sophomore hurler tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering five hits, walking two, and fanning four to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Delhi came out swinging with a grand slam home run in the opening frame, jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead. But the Tigers didn't flinch. They responded in the second with a six-run outburst that flipped the script. Neeser scored Cobleskill's first run on a wild pitch, and DiGiacco followed with a two-RBI single to left. Another wild pitch brought home the fourth run before the Wendelken sisters—Mackenzie and Gabriella—each notched RBIs to give Cobleskill a 6-5 lead.
The Tigers added four more runs in the fourth to widen the gap. Prievo smoked a single up the middle to bring in two, and Dean followed with an RBI knock before DiGiacco plated another with a base hit, pushing the lead to 10-5.
In the fifth, Neeser drove in Rattigan with a single to right, and Dean earned a bases-loaded walk to make it 12-5. The final run came in the seventh when
Brook Irizarry (Florida, NY/S.S. Seward) was hit by a pitch with the bags full, bringing home Neeser to cap the 13-run rally.
Game Two: Cobleskill 10, Delhi 6
Cobleskill rode a six-run third inning to a 10-6 win, securing the doubleheader sweep over SUNY Delhi on Friday afternoon. Five Tigers knocked doubles in the victory, as the offense once again stole the spotlight.
Mackenzie Wendelken stayed hot at the dish, going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the attack.
Avery Prievo kept her bat blazing as well, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
Aliyah Neeser and
Hannah Dean each chipped in with a pair of RBIs, and the extra-base brigade included doubles from Mackenzie and
Gabriella Wendelken,
Kylie Rattigan, Prievo, and
Kailee DiGiacco.
In the circle,
Jaydaci Chamberlain earned her first win of the season, improving to 1-2 after going four innings and allowing six hits and four runs (three earned).
Madelynn Orosz came on in relief for her second appearance of the day, tossing the final three frames while giving up two runs on four hits and striking out two.
As in the opener, the Broncos opened the scoring with a two-run first inning. But the Tigers weren't down for long. The bats roared to life in the third, starting with a rally of three straight doubles by Rattigan,
Mackenzie Wendelken, and
Gabriella Wendelken to tie the game. A Delhi error gave Cobleskill the lead, and Dean stepped up and ripped a shot to the left-center gap to plate two more. By the end of the frame, the Tigers held a 6-2 lead.
Cobleskill added an insurance run in the fifth, but Delhi answered back with two runs of their own in the fifth to close the gap to 7-4. That was as close as it would get. In the sixth inning, Neeser delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle, and Prievo followed with a laser to left field for a two-run double to give the Tigers a 10-4 cushion.
Delhi made one last push in the seventh, scoring twice, but Orosz shut the door and sealed the sweep for the orange and black
