Albany, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's track and field team put together a strong all-around effort on Friday at the Bobbi Palma UAlbany Spring Classic, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay, Carney's personal best, and top-five performances in both track and field events.
The relay squad of
Guerna Becker (Fairfield, MT),
Madison Binette (Lewistown, ME),
Gillian Miner (Saranac, NY), and
Anneliese Klein (Carslie, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) combined to take second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:38.33.
In the mid-distance events, Miner turned in a solid performance in the 800 meters, placing seventh in 2:34.51. Binette also showed her strength in the 1500 meters with a 14th-place finish in 5:24.49, just ahead of
Gabrielle Waite (Pulaski, NY) in 15th at 5:37.87. In the 5000 meters,
Alyssa Freeguard (Argyle, NY) held her pace well over the 12-and-a-half laps, placing fourth in 20:43.35.
Cobleskill had a strong showing in the hurdles, as Klein placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.90, and Becker followed in 13th at 17.91.
In the field,
Jessica Carney (Hopkinton, NH) delivered a major personal best in the javelin, launching the spear 31.57 meters (103-07) to take fourth overall. Klein continued her standout day with a third-place finish in the long jump, covering a distance of 5.27 meters (17-03 ½).
Dory Gosselin (Whitehall, NY) contributed in the throws, placing third in the discus with a mark of 29.55 meters (96-11) and adding a 10th-place finish in the hammer throw at 25.47 meters (83-06).
