Cobleskill, NY: First-year track and field standout
Anneliese Klein (Carlisle, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) was named the 2024–25 SUNY Cobleskill Female Co-Rookie of the Year at the Athletic Department's annual awards ceremony earlier this May.
The award honors a first-year female student-athlete who makes an immediate and meaningful impact in her debut season. For Klein, that impact came in record-breaking fashion—both on the track and in the field.
In her indoor season, Klein set a new program record in the long jump at the Utica Fast Trax Invitational, leaping 5.33 meters (17-6) to break a school mark that had stood since 2005. The jump earned her first place and qualified her for the AARTFC regional championships. She went on to place fourth at the SUNYAC Championships and eighth at regionals—earning All-AARTFC honors and standing as the top-finishing first-year in the event.
Klein's outdoor campaign was just as impressive. She broke the Cobleskill record in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:06.38, surpassing the previous best by over a second and again meeting the regional qualifying standard. She also opened that meet with a win in the long jump at 5.36 meters (17-7), highlighting a two-win day. At the AARTFC Outdoor Championships, she capped her season by placing 20th in the long jump with a mark of 5.11 meters (16-9 ¼).
Head coach Zach Haskin praised Klein's competitive mindset and record-setting year.
"Anneliese is a great young athlete. She's driven, focused, and treats every day as a chance to get better. Her work ethic and talent are unmatched. To become the first female athlete in program history to podium at regionals—it's been a historic start to what we hope is a long and successful career."
