ONEONTA, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Morrisville on Thursday at All-Star Village, taking the opener 7-5 before a dramatic 11-8 walk-off victory in the second game of the day.
Game One: Cobleskill 7, Morrisville 5
Cobleskill broke open the first game with a six-run third inning and added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the 7-5 win. The Tigers finished with nine hits, while Morrisville collected eight hits and committed four errors.
Sammy Fausti led the Cobleskill offense in the opener, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Aliyah Neeser doubled home a run, Mackenzie Carver added an RBI single, and Taegyn Hart delivered a key two-run double during the Tigers' big third inning.
Morrisville chipped away with a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one more in the sixth, but Cobleskill held on late to finish off the win.
Game Two: Cobleskill 11, Morrisville 8
The Tigers completed the sweep in thrilling fashion in the nightcap, as Sam Lawton delivered a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Cobleskill to an 11-8 victory.
Cobleskill scored in five different innings, including one in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth to stay within striking distance. Morrisville answered throughout the game, including a four-run second inning and additional runs in the third and sixth to set up a tight finish.
Trailing late, the Tigers mounted one final rally in the seventh inning. After putting runners on base, Lawton stepped to the plate and launched a three-run home run to seal the comeback victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.
Cobleskill totaled 12 hits in the win, with contributions throughout the lineup as the Tigers continued to apply pressure offensively.
