COBLESKILL, N.Y. — The SUNY Cobleskill softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with SUNY Potsdam on Sunday at Fighting Tiger Park, rallying for a 15-14 extra-inning win in the opener before dropping the second game, 6-1.
Game One: Cobleskill 15, Potsdam 14 (8 innings)
The Tigers survived a wild opener by scoring 15 runs on 14 hits and pushing across two runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory. Cobleskill jumped out early with five runs in the first inning and two more in the second before answering Potsdam's big middle innings with a five-run sixth and the game-winning rally in extras.
Gabriella Wendelken helped power the offense, going 2-for-6 with two doubles and four RBI, while Kylie Rattigan finished with two hits and three RBI. Julia Barrieau delivered the biggest swing of the day with a three-run home run in the eighth, and Avery Prievo added three hits, two doubles, and two RBI in the win.
Game Two: Potsdam 6, Cobleskill 1
Potsdam took control early in the nightcap and held Cobleskill to one run on seven hits to earn the split. The Bears scored three runs in the second inning, added two more before Cobleskill could settle in, and backed the effort with a complete-game performance in the circle.
Cobleskill's lone run came in the fourth inning, but the Tigers were unable to string together enough timely hits to climb back into the game. Jaydaci Chamberlain drew the start, and Gabriella Wendelken came on in relief for Cobleskill.
