Tigers Fall in Heartbreaking Ninth Inning at the 2026 NAC Tournament Opener

Bangor, ME: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team pushed Maine-Presque Isle nine innings in the first round of the 2026 NAC Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon, but a three-run ninth by the Owls proved to be the difference in a 5-2 final.

Offensively, Avery Prievo carried the load for Cobleskill, going 2-for-4 and accounting for both of the Tigers' runs with a pair of RBI. Taegyn Hart added a double and drove in a run, and Gabriella Wendelken crossed the plate twice after reaching base on a walk and an error. Brielle Dixon also contributed a hit in three at-bats, and Sammy Fausti singled in the ninth inning with a chance to extend the rally before the inning ended.

Madelynn Orosz was the story in the circle for the Tigers, working eight strong innings and keeping Cobleskill in the game throughout. She scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out three, giving the Tigers every opportunity to pull out the win. The Tigers handed the ball to Sam Lawton for the ninth, and after two quick outs, Maine-Presque Isle strung together three hits and capitalized to plate three runs and close the door.

The Tigers finished with seven hits on the afternoon against Maine-Presque Isle starter Gracelyn Walsh.

UP NEXT: The Tigers drop into the elimination bracket of the 2026 NAC Softball Tournament and take on Univ of Maine, Farmington Friday, May 8th at 9 am.
