Box Score Oswego, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team lost in the championship game of the 2014 Max Ziel Women's Basketball Tournament to D'Youville College hosted by SUNY Oswego by a score of 58-40 on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 1-1 overall on the season while D'Youville opens the year with a perfect 2-0 mark.
The Fighting Tigers put up a fierce struggle in the first half trailing 27-24 at the break to the Spartans. But the combination of 25 turnovers and a 16-for-60 shooting effort from the field, 26.7%, proved too much to overcome for the Orange & Black.
Once again sophomore forward/guard
Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, carried the load posting her second straight double/double of the season with 14 points to go with game high 21 rebounds while passing out three assists and blocking two shots on the afternoon to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
Cobleskill also received eight points and six rebounds from sophomore guard
Tegan Matthews, Galway, N.Y., Galway High School, and six points and two rebounds from freshman guard
Annette Hogan, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School.
The Fighting Tigers will return to the court on Saturday November 22 when they travel to Troy, N.Y., to take on the Gators of Sage College with tip-off slated for 2:00 p.m.
