Waterville, Maine.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's cross country team posted a team score 201 points to place eighth overall in a field of 10-teams at the 2021 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championships hosted by Thomas College at their campus course on Saturday. Cobleskill had been picked to finish ninth in the conference's pre-race coaches' poll.
The Fighting Tigers battled their way through the difficult and muddy 5000-meter loop led by freshman
Jenna Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, who placed 27
th overall in the 69-runner field in a time of 26:25.8 on the afternoon.
Cobleskill's efforts at the championship meet were a step in the right direction according to Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mitch Tomaszkiewicz.
"It has been a difficult year in terms of putting together a healthy roster post Covid and given the course and conditions we faced today; I am extremely proud of our team. We exceeded expectations today and as I told the ladies, the fact that we are here competing as a complete team is a victory in itself. This year the goal was to survive and because of the efforts of these young women, our goal next year will be to return the program to contention for a conference title."
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday November 13 when they travel to Geneseo, N.Y. for the 2021 NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships hosted by SUNY Geneseo at the National Warplane Museum Cross Country Course beginning at 11:00 a.m.
