Zach Haskin Named SUNY Cobleskill Interim Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach

Fighting Tigers Name Zach Haskiin Interim Track & Field Coach

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that former Fighting Tiger All-American Heptathlete Zach Haskin, Warnerville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, has been named Interim Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach beginning this season. Haskin graduated from Cobleskill in 2019 with his bachelor's degree in Communications Technology as well as his New York State High School Coaching Certification. He had previously served as the assistant men's and women's track & field coach at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. in 2020 specializing in sprints, jumps and hurdles.Ā 

Haskin becomes the ninth head coach in program history and at the age of 24 is one of the youngest head track & field coaches in the country. During his Fighting Tiger career, he was named the athletic program's Male Athlete-of-the-Year in 2017, 2018 and 2019 in a career that saw him earn NCAA All-American honors in Indoor Track & Field in the Heptathlon in 2019 after qualifying for the national championship meet in the event in the previous two seasons as well as qualifying for the Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the Decathlon in 2018.

The new Fighting Tiger Head Coach was excited about his return to his alma mater and the program.

"I am happy to come back to my roots," said Haskin. "I was a pretty decent high school athlete but it was here at during my time here that SUNY Cobleskill brought out my full potential as both a student and an athlete. It is truly an honor to come back here with an opportunity to put my own program in place. I am grateful to our Athletic Director Marie Curran-Headley for this opportunity and to develop a program that is able to compete at a high level."

A 2015 graduate of Cobleskill-Richmondville High School where he lettered in Outdoor Track & Field, where he an All-Colonial Council Team honoree three times and a league champion in the Pentathlon as well as an all-conference honoree and league champion in the high jump along and a all-conference honoree in the 110 hurdles and the 1600 meter relay. He also lettered in Football where he was twice selected to the All-Colonial Council Team as a kicker and defensive back while also lettering in soccer and basketball.

As he takes over the program Haskin believes that he has a unique perspective on what it takes to be successful at the college.

"Being an athlete at SUNY Cobleskill and having personally been successful here; I know what it takes to succeed here. I am excited to be a part of the move to the North Atlantic Conference and to be able to build a program that can compete at a very high level."

Aside from his coaching duties, the Fighting Tiger mentor is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Fitness and Wellness from SUNY Plattsburgh.Ā  Ā
