Delhi, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team renewed one of the oldest rivalries in New York state soccer history on Wednesday evening making the trip to SUNY Delhi for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division contest. At the final horn the visiting Fighting Tigers were on the short end of a 2-0 score to the home standing Broncos. With the loss Cobleskill falls to 0-9-2 overall including a 0-4 conference record while Delhi improves to 7-3-1 overall with a 3-0-1 mark versus NAC opponents.
The Fighting Tigers took the action to the Western Division leading Broncos early and often with a number of aggressive attacks in the Delhi half of the field showing a more focused offensive attack while defensively limiting the home team to only five shots on goal on the evening.
However, one of those shots was a quasi-breakaway off the foot of sophomore forward Michael Williams Jr., Lake Grove, N.Y., Sachem North High School, in the 15
th minute of play which turned out to be the eventual game winning goal. The Broncos would score a second half insurance goal in the second half in the 58
th minute to provide the final margin of victory.
On the evening the Orange & Black took nine shots, with four on goal, and five corner kicks against the home team.
Cobleskill will return to NAC action on Saturday October 8 when they host the Privateers of Maine Maritime Academy at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
