Waterville, Maine: Four members of the SUNY Cobleskill women's cross country team were honored by the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) for the efforts during the 2022 season. Sophomore
Katherine Ledermann, Altamont, N.Y., Guilderland High School, earned a spot on the NAC First Team while first-year team member
Alyssa Freeguard, Argyle, N.Y., Argyle High School, and sophomore
Jenna Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, earned spots on the NAC Second Team. Additionally, Sophomore
Kaitlynn Schmitz, Churchville, N.Y., Churchville-Chili High School, was also honored by the NAC earning a spot on the league's Sportsmanship Team.
The three Fighting Tiger team members earned places on the 2022 NAC All-Conference Team at the NAC Championship meet on Saturday October 30 hosted by SUNY Canton in Canton, N.Y. as
Katherine Ledermann turned in a season best effort at the event by placing sixth overall in the 57-runner field completing the hilly 6000-meter course in a time of 25:57.6 followed by
Alyssa Freeguard, who finished 12
th overall in 26:24.4 and
Jenna Swyers, in placed 13
th with a time of 26:28.5.
Completing the Cobleskill honorees was
Kaitlynn Schmitz who was named to the 2022 NAC Sportsmanship team which honors student-athletes in keeping with the conference's theme of
"Creating an Atmosphere of Respect" for each of its sports. The establishment of the Sportsmanship Team in all sports is in concert with the league's ultimate goal to create an atmosphere that places the highest regard for exemplary behavior of all participants, coaches, administrators, fans and officials.
As he reflected on his team's All-Conference honorees, Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mitch Tomaszkiewicz spoke of their impact on the program this season.
"As we continue to rebuild our women's program in a Covid environment these young women have moved us closer to contending for a league title which is where we aspire to get to," said Tomaszkiewicz. "Katherine, Alyssa, Jenna and Kaitlynn are going to be the backbone of our program in the future and beyond that they are outstanding young women who are a pleasure to work with on a daily basis. As a coach I am fortunate to work with them and excited about where we can go as a program led by them."
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday November 12 when the team travels to Rochester, N.Y. for the 2022 NCAA Division III Niagara Region Cross Country Regional Championships hosted by the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park beginning at 11:00 a.m.
