Melbourne, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team closed out their trip to the 2024 Space Coast Invitational on a sour note on Friday falling twice to the Lady Crusaders of Dallas Christian College (DCC) by scores of 8-6 and 2-1. With the losses the Fighting Tigers close the event with a 2-6 overall record on the year while DCC improves their season record to 9-16 overall.
The Fighting Tigers trailed in the first game 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when they rallied for four rights with the big hit being a two out two run double off the bat of senior first baseman
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, that mad it 8-6.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Cobleskill comeback effort was stopped short as the Fighting Tigers loaded the bases against the Crusaders but could not push any runs across the plate.
Alexis Miranda led the Fighting Tiger offense at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Junior pitcher
Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, turned in a stellar effort in relief to keep Cobleskill in the game allowing only one earned run in 4 1/3 innings striking out three and walking none.
In the second game the Fighting Tigers broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth when with two outs, first baseman
Alexis Miranda beat out an infield single and advanced to third on a single to left by junior catcher
Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, bringing up junior designated player
Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, with runners on first and third. Lutz promptly singled to left scoring Miranda and making it 1-0 in favor of Cobleskill.
The score remained tied until the bottom of the seventh when the Crusaders pushed a pair of runs across the plate to secure the 2-1 decision.
First-year pitcher
Madelynn Orosz, Seymour, Ct., Nonnewaug High School, suffered the loss despite going the distance in the contest allowing one earned run while holding the Lady Crusaders to seven hits.
Emily Lutz was the hitting star in the game for the Orange & Black going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The Fighting Tigers are next scheduled to be in action on Tuesday March 26 when they host the Gators of Sage College for a pair of non-contest contests at Fighting Tiger Park with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
