SUNY Cobleskill Baseball Team Members Honored by NAC For 2024 Campaign

Fighting Tiger Baseball Team Members Earn All-NAC Team Honors of 2024 Season


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: Coming off their fourth consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Championship and third trip to the NAC Championship Round the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team had six players receive All-NAC honors as voted by the league's coaches as: junior catcher Dylan Pohl, East Meadow, N.Y., East Meadow High School, senior second baseman Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction Technologies and senior shortstop/third baseman David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School, were all named to the All-NAC First Team, , senior outfielder/first baseman Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, junior centerfielder Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, were named to the All-NAC Second Team while senior first baseman/third baseman Chris Champlin, Jefferson, N.Y., South Kortright High School, was named to the NAC Sportsmanship Team.
 
According to Fighting Tiger Head Coach Austin Straub, this group has played a major role in the continued development of the Fighting Tiger baseball program while being great representatives of the college.
 
"These young men were instrumental in the continuing development of our program and played a major role in us winning our fourth consecutive NAC Western Division Championship. Beyond that, they have done a great job representing SUNY Cobleskill to the baseball community at large. They are fine young men and it has been a pleasure working with them this year."
 
Catcher Dylan Pohl was the team's anchor behind the plate catching 34 of the team's 41 games this season batting .267 with an on-base percentage of .339 with 28 hits including four doubles, a home run 23 runs scored and 19 RBI to go with .963 fielding percentage in 190 chances.
 
Stephen Tejada proved to be one of the league's top hitters during the season batting .353 with an on-base percentage of .415 with 49 hits, including three doubles, a home run, 15 stolen bases, 35 runs scored and 22 RBI.
 
David Flora earned his second consecutive First Team All-NAC Team selection by leading the Fighting Tigers in hitting this year with a .359 batting average to go with a .421 on-base percentage with a team best 51 hits including 12 doubles, two triples and four home runs along with 17 stolen bases, 36 runs scored and 25 runs batted in.
 
 
A steady presence in right field throughout the season Samuel Gutierrez was one of the premier power hitters in the league batting .297 with a .380 on-base percentage with 41 hits including six doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 32 runs scored and a league leading 47 RBI on the campaign while posting a .954 fielding percentage in 87 chances in the outfield and first base.
 
Zach Ducorsky provided Cobleskill with exceptional play in centerfield while being a steady offensive contributor batting .271 with an on-base percentage of .372 with 36 hits including five doubles, a triple, 20 stolen bases 28 runs scored and 13 RBI while turning in a Gold Glove effort in the field handling 125 chances with no errors for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
 
With his selection to the NAC Sportsmanship Team Chris Champlin has proven to be a positive representation of the Fighting Tiger to NAC member programs and to the SUNY Cobleskill community as a whole.
 
The sportsmanship team honors student-athletes in keeping with the conference's theme of "Creating an Atmosphere of Respect" for each of its sports. The establishment of the Sportsmanship Team in all sports is in concert with the league's ultimate goal to create an atmosphere that places the highest regard for exemplary behavior of all participants, coaches, administrators, fans and officials.
 
During the season Champlain batted .252 with an on-base percentage of .338 with 28 hits including four doubles, two triples, 19 runs scored along with 18 RBI along with a .962 fielding percentage in 157 chances.
 
The Fighting Tigers finished the season with an 18-23 overall record including a 10-3 record versus league opponents which earned Cobleskill their fourth consecutive NAC Western Division Championship.
