Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team is set to kick off the 2024 season as they were ranked third in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division Preseason Poll, as voted by the coaches. The Fighting Tigers come off a 2023 season where they finished 2-11-2 overall with several one-goal games and a 1-6-1 mark in the NAC.
Leading the charge for Cobleskill this season are several key returning players who bring experience and leadership to the field. Junior midfielder
Jessica Carney (Hopkinton, NH/Hopkinton) finished the 2023 season with four goals and one assist in 13 games and will be a pivotal force in the midfield this season. Junior goalie
Dory Gosselin (Whitehall, NY/Whitehall) returns in net after leading the Tigers with 124 saves and a .762 save percentage last season and looks to anchor the defense.
On the defensive side, junior defender
Caleigh Chase (Cortland, NY/Cortland) started in 14 games last season and will provide stability at the back. Senior
Erin Hensel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) is expected to contribute her veteran presence across the pitch.
The Fighting Tigers also welcome some promising new talent to the squad. Junior defender
Kayleigh Bryant (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) is set to bolster the backline, and freshman forward
Emma Grant (Canastota, NY/Canastota) is poised to add a fresh attacking element to the team's offense.
Cobleskill's season begins this Friday as they face off against Herkimer College at noon in the SUNY Poly opening weekend tournament. The tournament, hosted at SUNY Poly, will also feature a second match for the Fighting Tigers on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for either 12:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m., depending on the results of the opening game.
