Castleton, Vt.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's cross country team opened their 2024 season with a strong showing by posting a team score of 20 points to outdistance a four-team field at the Northern Vermont University-Castleton Invitational hosted by the Spartans on the University's home course on Saturday August 31.
The Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore
Lilianna Peters, Hinsdale, N.Y., Allegany-Limestone High School, who won the event for the second consecutive year bettering the 31-runner field by covering the 5000-meter course in a time of 20:27.
Cobleskill supported Peters with an impressive showing of pack running with six runners cracking the race's top-10 led by junior
Alyssa Freeguard, Argyle, N.Y., Argyle High School, who placed second overall in a time of 22:12, followed by first-year
Molly Repicky, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, who placed fourth in 22:38, senior
Kathrine Ledermann, Altamont, N.Y., Guilderland High School, who placed fifth in 23:24, first-year
Gillian Miner, Saranac, N.Y., Saranac High School, who placed seventh in 23:47, first-year
Liz Vaughn, Waverly, N.Y., Waverly High School, who finished eighth in 24:34 and first-year
Gabrielle Waite, Pulaski, N.Y., Pulaski High School, who placed ninth in a time of 24:50.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday September 7 when they host their annual Steven A. Warde Invitational on the campus cross country course beginning at 10:30 a.m.
