Charles Agle Named SUNY Cobleskill Comeback Player of the Year

Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department honored senior captain Charles Agle (Eden, N.Y.) of the Fighting Tiger men's soccer team as the 2024-25 Male Comeback Player of the Year during the department's annual Athletics Awards Ceremony held earlier this May.

The Comeback Player of the Year award is presented to a Fighting Tiger student-athlete who has overcome injury through dedication to the rehabilitation process and returned to make a meaningful impact in competition.

Agle, a defender and team captain, returned from a season-ending ACL injury that sidelined him for the entire 2023 campaign. In his comeback season, he started all 19 games for the Fighting Tigers, anchoring a defense that played a vital role in the teams' postseason run. Cobleskill reached the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division Championship game for the first time in program history, finishing the year 5-11-3 and earning its first postseason win since 2018 with a 3-2 victory over VTSU-Johnson in the NAC First Round.

His presence on the back line helped reduce the team's goals allowed average from 2.56 last season to 1.89 in his return. He also recorded one assist during the season. Off the field, Agle was also named to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team and the NAC Fall All-Academic Team, recognizing student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while contributing meaningfully to their teams.

Fighting Tiger Head Men's Soccer Coach Joseph Machado reflected on Agle's journey back to the field.

"After suffering a torn ACL during the fall of 2022, Charles faced a long recovery that kept him out for the entire 2023 season," said Machado. "But he never stepped away from the team. He continued to lead, attending practices, supporting his teammates, and working tirelessly through rehab. His return this past fall was not only inspiring but critical to our success on the field."
