Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's cross country team returned to the winners stand on Saturday afternoon posting a team score of 26 points to outdistance an 11-team field at the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships hosted by the Fighting Tigers on their campus course. The conference title was the team's ninth overall in 12 years of league membership and the last one in program history as Cobleskill will move to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) during the 2020-21 academic year.
According to SUNY Cobleskill Head Coach
Mitchell Tomaszkiewicz, this was an important victory for the program in teams of the long-run.
"I am extremely proud of the 15 young ladies that are in our program as they are have been committed to collectively getting better on a weekly basis with the idea of winning a league title in mind. Last year we finished fifth overall at the league championship meet and our ladies at the end of the year asked me what our goal was for this year. I said that our goal was, as it always is, to contend for a league title and that if we worked hard over the summer months it was attainable. Our returners came to campus in great shape on day one and our newcomers were also ready to run from the time they arrived in August. That type of commitment, sacrifice and dedication in the off-season is why we were able to stand on the podium today and receive our championship trophy and medals."
The Fighting Tigers placed six runners on the 2019 NEAC All-Conference Team led by sophomore
Ashley Kubat, Sloansville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who placed second in the 74 runner field covering the soggy 6000-meter course in time of 24:53.8 to earn First Team All-NEAC Team honors followed on by her teammates junior
