Waterville, Maine: The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) announced today that SUNY Cobleskill freshman catcher
Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, has been named the league's NAC Baseball Rookie-of-the-Week for the week ending March 28, 2021.
The first-year catcher played a major role in the team's 5-4 upset road win over regional power SUNY Cortland in the second game of a doubleheader played on Saturday in Cortland, N.Y. With his selection, Snyder becomes the first Fighting Tiger student-athlete to earn honors from the league as Cobleskill is in its first year of NAC competition.
In the game, the Shaker High School alumnus went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored while handling the pitching staff flawlessly and recording three putouts over the course of seven innings to secure the victory. The Fighting Tigers split the doubleheader with the Red Dragons, losing the first game by a 9-0 margin, to open the campaign at 1-1 overall on the year.
Cobleskill is slated to return to action on Saturday April 3 when they are slated to host SUNY Canton at Fighting Tiger Field for a NAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Due to pandemic protocols no spectators will be allowed in attendance for all Fighting Tiger Home Contests.
