Canton, N.Y.: The road was a rocky one on Saturday for the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team as the Fighting Tigers dropped a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contests to the host Kangaroos of SUNY Canton falling in the first game 5-4 in eight innings then dropping the second game by a score of 9-4. With the defeats the Fighting Tigers fall to 7-4 overall on the campaign including a 5-3 record in NAC play while the Kangaroos are now 5-7 overall with a 3-3 mark in league play.

In the opener, Cobleskill led 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth when the Fighting Tiger pitching staff faltered allowing three runs which led to extra innings when the home team used a one-out triple by shortstop Tyler Reed and a sacrifice fly to centerfield by their centerfielder Jesse Iacovetta to decide the issue.

At the plate, the Fighting Tigers were led by senior centerfielder Nick Thomas, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School, who went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and by senior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who went 1-for-4 with double and two RBI.

Senior Ethan Staub, Oswego, N.Y., Oswego High School, took the loss despite working 3 2/3 innings of relief allowing 1 run on two hits while striking out two and walking only one.

In the second game, Cobleskill once again held a 3-0 lead after three innings before Canton scored nine unanswered runs over the next four innings to put the contest in the win column.

Senior left fielder Jayson Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., Notre Dame High School, was a bright spot in defeat for the Orange & Black going 2-for-5 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored.

The Fighting Tigers are scheduled to return to Canton, N.Y. on Monday April 26 to close out their season series with the Kangaroos playing the home team in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
