Fighting Tiger Baseball Ranked First in NAC Western Division Coaches Poll

Waterville, Maine: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team has been ranked first overall in the opening 2023 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Pre-Season Coaches Poll. The Fighting Tigers, who are currently 1-2 on the year, are coming off a 2022 season that saw them post a 21-20 overall record including a 11-4 mark in conference play which was good enough to their second consecutive NAC Western Division Championship.

This season Cobleskill will be returning a veteran roster featuring 23 returning lettermen led by NAC Pitcher-of-the-Year junior Wyatt Palmer, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School/Cayuga Community College and NAC Rookie-of-the-Year sophomore catcher/outfielder Logan Hutter, Smithtown, N.Y., Smithtown West High School, first-year head coach Austin Straub believes the Fighting Tigers are on solid ground and are ready to take the next step.

"We are still a relatively young but we are considered a very experienced team," said Straub. "This year we need to figure out, after winning the Western Division the past two seasons, how to win a conference tournament and play regional level baseball."

The Fighting Tigers are next scheduled to be in action on Monday March 13 when they compete in the 2023 Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale Fla. Cobleskill will open the event at 1:00 p.m. when they meet the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a meeting with the Bears of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) beginning at 4:30 p.m.
