SUNY Cobleskill Softball Opens NAC Play With Sweep on Road of SUNY Canton

Fighting Tiger Softball Sweeps Host SUNY Canton to Open 2024 NAC Campaign

Canton, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill softball team opened their 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season on Tuesday afternoon by sweeping the host Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in league action by scores of 15-2 and 0-0. With the victories the Fighting Tigers move to 6-8 overall including a 2-0 record in NAC play while the Kangaroos fall to 0-8 overall with a 0-2 mark in conference play.
 
In the first game of the afternoon, the Fighting Tigers took advantage of seven Kangaroo errors and 11 walks while victimizing Canton pitching for 13 hits to post the victory using an eight run sixth inning to end the contest via eight-run rule.
 
At the plate seven Cobleskill hitters had hits in the contest led by first-year second baseman Kylie Rattigan, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Arlington High School, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, senior first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, who went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI and first-year designated player Gianna Guido, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, who was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior third baseman Deanna Palmer, Auburn, N.Y., Auburn High School/Finger Lakes Community College, was also a factor with the bat going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
 
Staked to a big lead, junior pitcher Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Mass., Norfolk County Agricultural High School, went the distance allowing only two runs while striking out four and walking only one on the afternoon to improve to 3-1 overall on the year.
 
In the second game Fighting Tiger first-year starting pitcher Madelynn Orosz, Seymour, Ct., Nonnewaug High School, held the Kangaroo offense in check posting Cobleskill's first shutout win of the year going seven innings and allowing the home team only six hits while striking out four and walking only one to improve her record to even her record at 3-3 overall.
 
The Orange & Black scored the only run they needed in the first inning when with two outs first baseman Alexis Miranda blasted her third home run of the season as part of a plate performance that saw the New Hampshire native go 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The Fighting Tigers also received offensive contributions from senior left fielder Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, who was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored and from junior shortstop Kailee DiGiacco, Spencerport, N.Y., Spencerport High School/Monroe Community College, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a triple, a run scored and an RBI.
 
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14 when they travel to Delhi, N.Y. for a NAC weekend series versus the Broncos of SUNY Delhi beginning each day at 12:00 p.m.
