Fighting Tiger Softball Team Members Named to 2024 All-NAC Team


 
Cobleskill, N.Y.: Coming off their fourth consecutive trip to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament the SUNY Cobleskill softball team had five players receive All-NAC honors as voted by the league's coaches. Fighting Tiger junior pitcher Jaydaci Chamberlain, Northborough, Ma., Norfolk Country Agricultural High School, and senior first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, were both named to the All-NAC First Team while senior outfielder Emily Lutz, Ellenville, N.Y., Ellenville High School, and first-year outfielder Jenna Smyczynski, East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora High School, were both honored on the All-NAC Second Team. Additionally, senior outfielder Ashley Phelps, Lima, N.Y., Honeoye Falls-Lima High School/Genesee Community College, was named to the NAC Sportsmanship Team.
 
This season the Fighting Tigers posted a 19-17 overall record including a 12-3 record versus league opponents to place second in the NAC Western Division standings and earn their fourth consecutive trip to the league's championship tournament.
 
Fighting Tiger second-year head coach Morgan Flamholtz had high praise for her quintet of players who played such an instrumental role in the season's success.
 
"I don't think that words can express how proud I am of this group because they've played such a major role in our success this year," said the Fighting Tiger Head Coach. "This year we had a winning season and posted the most overall wins in a season since 2015. We also almost doubled our conference win total and returned to the conference play-offs. These five were instrumental in making all of this possible."
 
Jaydaci Chamberlain became the ace of the Fighting Tigers' pitching staff posting a 10-4 overall record in 19 appearances this year including 14 starts with 11 complete games and one shutout. The Northborough, Ma. native posted a 3.28 ERA in 104.1 innings of work striking out 36 and holding hitters to a .312 batting average on the season.
 
Alexis Miranda earned All-NAC First Team honors for the third consecutive season batting .404 with an on-base percentage of .461 going 44-for-109 at the plate including nine doubles, five triples, five home runs, 26 runs scored and 42 RBI in 36 starts this season. The Fighting Tiger first baseman also posted a defensive fielding percentage of .974 in 232 chances handled this season.
 
Emily Lutz was named to the All-NAC Second team for the second consecutive season after batting a team leading .406 on the year to go with a team best on-base percentage of .504. Lutz went 41-for-101 on the season including 11 doubles, three triples, a home run, 29 runs scored and 16 RBI on the year.
 
First-year outfielder Jenna Smyczynski, East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora High School, turned in an exceptional rookie season for the Orange & Black batting .405 going 34-for-84 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, seven stolen bases, nine RBI and 12 runs scored on the year.
 
With her selection to the NAC Sportsmanship Team Ashley Phelps has proven to be a positive representation of the Fighting Tiger to NAC member programs and to the SUNY Cobleskill community as a whole.
 
The sportsmanship team honors student-athletes in keeping with the conference's theme of "Creating an Atmosphere of Respect" for each of its sports. The establishment of the Sportsmanship Team in all sports is in concert with the league's ultimate goal to create an atmosphere that places the highest regard for exemplary behavior of all participants, coaches, administrators, fans and officials.
