Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department has named junior captain
Iain Patterson (Pompton Lakes, NJ) of the Fighting Tiger men's lacrosse team as its 2025-26 Sportsman of the Year. Patterson was recognized during the department's annual Athletics Awards Ceremony held earlier this May.
The Sportsman of the Year award is presented to the male student-athlete who best exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership and integrity through his actions in competition, in the classroom and throughout the campus community.
A respected leader within the men's lacrosse program, Patterson played an important role for the Fighting Tigers both on and off the field. Despite a challenging season that was cut short after five games, Patterson's leadership, resilience and positive presence helped guide the team through adversity.
Off the field, Patterson has made a strong impact across the campus community. He served as Co-Vice President of the Cobleskill Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and played a lead role in organizing the Cobleskill Veteran Appreciation Game. He has also been an active advocate for the Woodsmen's team, continuing to support and represent student-athletes across campus.
Patterson's leadership, commitment and steady presence have made him a respected representative of SUNY Cobleskill Athletics and a deserving recipient of this year's Sportsman of the Year honor.
